Paris FW 2025: Africa sets the trend with Africa Fashion Up and Africa Now at Galeries Lafayette

By Florence Julienne

June 25, 2025

During a fashion show organized on Thursday, June 26, 2025, Africa Fashion Up, a program chaired by Valerie Ka and supported by the French association Share Africa, will unveil its six 2025 laureates. Among them is Banke Kuku, also featured in the "Africa Now" pop-up, which runs until July 18, 2025, at Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann.

African fashion is on-trend. This is evidenced by the presence of numerous African designers who came to present their collections at Paris Fashion Week in June 2025.

"Estimated at 31 billion dollars in 2020, the African fashion market continues to grow. Currently valued at 15.5 billion dollars in exports per year according to UNESCO, the continent's fashion industry revenues could triple over the next ten years, provided that designers benefit from a structured ecosystem and adequate support," states the Africa Fashion Up press release.

To optimize their visibility, the six laureates selected by the association will present their collections (Thursday, June 26, 6 p.m., at the Bridge, Pont Alexandre III): Dibo, Sume Et Fese (Eloli World – Cameroon), Frank Aghuno (Fruché – Nigeria), Hawi Midekssa (Hawii – Ethiopia), Oshobor Odion (Oshobor – Nigeria), Samkelo Xaba (Boyde – South Africa) and Banke Kuku (Banke Kuku – Nigeria).

In 2019, she opened her boutique in Lagos, launching her first women's collection. She then expanded her brand with an online store (2020) and a children's line (2021), distributing her creations internationally. Known for her clothing that combines luxury, comfort, and bold prints, the designer draws inspiration from her African roots and her life between London and Lagos to create.

The other Africa Now designers present at Galeries Lafayette are: Algueye (Senegal); Bandama, an Ivorian brand that showcases wax prints through clothing and bags; and Collé Sow Ardo, known for her work with woven loincloths.
